Of Oil and Iron is a dieselpunk tabletop wargame set in the war-torn Smoglands, where towering war machines called Rigs clash over dwindling resources. Players take command of a squadron of customizable Rigs, each piloted by a coveted Ironclad, and lead them into cinematic battles for survival and dominance.

The game blends tactical skirmish combat with campaign play. Rigs can be outfitted with different engines, weapons, and equipment, allowing for a wide range of builds and strategies. Battles are resolved with an accessible D12 and D6 dice system that emphasizes positioning, damage to specific rig locations, and the ever-present risk of overheating.

Beyond one-off battles, Of Oil and Iron includes a persistent campaign system: squadrons gain resources, salvage parts, and repair damage between operations. Over time, players can grow their forces, upgrade their machines, and carry forward the scars of previous encounters.

Five distinct factions vie for control of the Smoglands, each with their own identity and philosophy—from the industrial titans of Nox Industries to the free-spirited Freegear Coalition. Players may pledge loyalty to a faction or hire out as independent mercenaries, shaping the future of the Smoglands through their choices.
